HUMAN DESIGN BREAKDOWNS: DIANE VON FURSTENBERG
Human Design Breakdown: Diane Von Furstenberg.
I have been a fan of Diane Von Furstenberg for YEARSSSS. Well before I found out about Human Design or that she was a 6/2 Manifestor twin. I remember at a time I felt particularly lost (in my first phase of life) - I heard her say a quote, "the most important relationship you'll ever have is the one you have with yourself".
Now that I am aware, it makes total sense. DVF had what could almost be described from the outside as 'accidental success' in her 20s. She didn't know what she wanted to do, so she was working in a fabric warehouse when she got married and fell pregnant and her husband wanted to move them to the USA.
She decided she wanted her own thing when she landed, so she asked her boss if she could borrow some fabric to make some samples, to which he agreed. She made her iconic wrap dress, lined up a meeting with Diana Vreeland (the Director of Vogue USA at the time) who loved it. Soon after the launch she was selling over 25k dresses a week.
At the peak of her success, she went off into the country with her family to get some 'peace' - yep she really said that in fully Manifestor signature style. This was in her second phase - on the roof.
At 50 (her final phase in the 6th line journey) she decided she wanted to have another crack at it. She came back to NYC and put her dresses in new stores and it had a resurgence of popularity and even ended up being worn by Michele Obama which put DVF back on the map. Now she has an incredible successful brand, but also has a strong foundation of mentoring women.
Her first task of the day is actually to connect two people who may be able to help each other via email - which I think is so beautiful and really speaks to her initiative power and role model qualities.
She’s a Manifestor.
The Manifestor in Human Design is an extraordinary archetype with a powerful energy are what I call The Spark because of their an innate ability to initiate, take action and capacity to bring their visions into reality. With a magnetic presence and an aura that naturally impacts those around them, Manifestors have the innate skill to ignite change and catalyse transformation. Diane Von Furstenberg blazed a trail with her innovative wrap dress in 1973 - and soon after the launch was selling over 25,000 of them a week and was dubbed 'the most marketable woman since Coco Chanel'. DVF initiated an entire movement of women to be empowered through a dress.
"I wanted to be an empowered woman and I became an empowered woman. Now I want to empower every woman, and I do it through my clothes and my words, I do it through my money. I do it through everything."
She’s a 6/2 Profile.
The 6/2 profile is here to show us how to live life authentically without being dependent on outside authorities. The 2nd line profile is the naturally gifted Hermit, who likes to be left alone to do its own thing. The 6th line is the Role Model - who lives life in three distinct phases: first 30 years gathering valuable experiences through trial, error and discovery. The second phase (30-50) is their time to retreat (which the 2nd line LOVES), heal, regain optimism, enjoy life and watch for the things that work. It’s a time of alchemising your lived experience - and this phase is also called ‘on the roof’.
They get a completely fresh perspective up here - and are not so bothered by the drama below but the bigger picture. After 50, they hit what I refer to as the ‘Oprah’ phase - we become a trusted leader and living example of the wise, aware, objective observer. People will see you as someone who’s advice and perspective hold a lot of objective wisdom, regardless of the phase of life they’re in. They’ll always be called out for your natural gifts and talents and it’s important for them to protect and nourish their natural gifts and choose the call outs that light you up.
DVF absolutely embodied this journey by 'bumping into' a huge amount of success in her 20s, having a family in her second phase & disappearing to find 'peace' {direct quote + mani signature!) before coming back & reviving the brand in a bigger, bolder way when she hit 50.
“I didn't know what I wanted to do, but I always knew the woman I wanted to be.”
She’s a Splenic Authority.
The splenic authority is a magic one. It's that intuitive, inner knowing that you can't really explain - it defies logic - you just KNOW. If they can explain it, chances are it's not the spleen. The spleen gives those quick hits of inner knowings - almost like a radar pinging new signals every moment, providing clarity along the way. DVF decided on an intuitive hit once she found out she was moving to the USA to ask her employer for some fabric to make some dresses to take with her. He agreed. She made her iconic wrap dress, pitched it to Diana Vreeland where it was featured in Vogue and the rest is history. The intuitive hits paid off.
“The most important relationship in your life is the relationship you have with yourself. Because no matter what happens, you will always be with yourself.”
